Rights, justice and action
This International Women’s Day, we stand together to balance the scales. We are also reflecting on our commitment to establish an inclusive culture that values diversity and addresses the systemic barriers that impact equity in the workplace.
It’s easy to talk about change for one day – what matters is taking action every day of the year. We believe our ongoing success is built on the systematic and holistic approach we take, spanning our hiring process, criteria for promotion, exit interviews, the facilities we provide, and everything in between.
This requires real commitment and effort, which is grounded in our core belief that diverse teams deliver better business outcomes.

Although there has been significant progress towards gender equality, women continue to experience barriers and inequalities in the home, workplace and the community.

Equity means everyone has the right to participate fully and equally in society, no matter their gender or circumstance. Achieving an equitable society is not only the right thing to do, but also the smart thing to do. When women thrive, everyone benefits. Families are stronger, workplaces are fairer, communities and economies thrive, and businesses are safer, more resilient and higher performing.
This year’s United Nation’s International Women’s Day (or IWD) theme – Rights, justice, action for all women and girls – is a powerful reminder that equity requires more than intention. It requires deliberate, sustained effort to dismantle the structural and cultural barriers that hold women and girls back. For me personally, this equates to representation, opportunity and advocacy, and the drive to lead by example as we seek to build an inclusive workplace that values diversity.
In this regard, Sandfire is only one of a handful of ASX listed companies that have achieved its 40:40:20 gender representation within both its Board and Executive team. More broadly, 45% of all roles within Australia are held by women, and we’ve achieved female representation of 24.5% at MATSA and 24.1% at Motheo, both of which significantly exceed mining industry norms in those regions of 9.1% and 12.5%, respectively.
We are firmly of the view that our ongoing success will continue to be built on the systematic and holistic approach we are taking that contemplates our hiring process, criteria for promotion, exit interviews, the facilities we provide, and everything in between. This takes real commitment and effort, which is grounded in a core belief that diverse teams deliver better business outcomes.
