Meet Nuria Fresco,
Nuria works as the Human Resources Director at Sandfire’s MATSA Operations in South-western Spain.
With over 20 years’ experience in Human Resources, Nuria is passionate about accelerating progress towards inclusion and diversity and says her goal is to continue to facilitate equal opportunities within the mining environment.
When discussing female representation within MATSA’s workforce, Nuria says although there is progress to be made there has also been pleasing growth.
“We have female truck drivers, drillers, operation supervisors, both inside and outside, which are professions that have traditionally been held by men.” Nuria said.
“66% of our women are in operational and maintenance areas, and 34% in Administration.”
Nuria said that more and more women are participating in the selection process for positions in the mining sector.
“Women’s leadership, their ability to transform and adapt to different environments are skills that are highly valued today for the continuous modernisation process in which we are immersed.” Nuria said.
Although traditionally mining might be seen as a male-dominated environment, Nuria said that the key to progress is the sharing of experiences and continuing this progression together.
Nuria is a mother, and a member of Sandfire MATSA’s Leadership Committee, where she supports Sandfire in driving our inclusion and diversity commitment within our workforce.
Nuria actively looks to bridge the gap for women and girls accessing STEM course, and does so through promoting the wide range of opportunities available within the mining sector to local high school students within the province.
