Sandfire’s early growth and success stemmed from the discovery of the high-grade DeGrussa copper-gold deposit, located 900km north-east of Perth in Western Australia, which it successfully brought into production in less than three years – setting new records for the drill-out, permitting, financing, development and construction of new resource projects in Australia.

The strong cash-flows generated by the DeGrussa operations have provided us with the platform to grow and diversify across the globe, through the transformational US$1.865 billion acquisition of the MATSA operations in Spain, and the development of our new, modern long-life copper mine in Botswana, the Motheo Copper Mine.

The MATSA operations located in the Huelva Province of south-western Spain, include a world-class polymetallic operation with three underground mines and a modern 4.7Mtpa processing facility. MATSA is a large-scale, long-life base metals asset that allows Sandfire to leverage its strong mining, processing and exploration expertise.

The broader MATSA portfolio offers exceptional exploration upside, and together with Sandfire’s emerging operations in Botswana, is expected to become the backbone of the Company’s business for the next decade and beyond.

The Company has an unwavering commitment to maintaining outstanding environmental and social performance – and was one of the pioneers for the introduction of renewable energy to Australia’s mining industry with the solar farm at the DeGrussa operation in Western Australia, which was the largest off-grid solar farm in Australia.
