The Kalkaroo Copper-Gold Project is one of the largest, undeveloped open pit copper-gold deposits in Australia.
The sulphide deposit has an existing Ore Reserve of 100Mt with a copper grade of 0.47% and a gold grade of 0.44g/t, underpinned by a sulphide Mineral Resource of 224Mt with a copper grade of 0.49% and a gold grade of 0.36g/t.
The Kalkaroo Project is in a preferred jurisdiction with ready access to key road (Barrier Highway), rail (Transcontinental Railway), energy infrastructure and ground water supply, and access to skilled labour from Adelaide, Broken Hill and the broader regional community.
Kalkaroo profile
Location: The Kalkaroo Copper-Gold Project (Kalkaroo Project) is located on the 550 square kilometre Kalkaroo (pastoral) Station in South Australia, approximately 500 kilometres north-east of Adelaide and 90 kilometres west north-west of Broken Hill (New South Wales).
Product: Copper and Gold
Next steps
Under the Earn in Agreement and the Strategic Alliance Agreement, we will work together to oversee and progress the agreed work programs in line with the agreed principles and timeline.
The PFS will include a drilling program designed to support declaration of an updated resource and reserve and broader studies that will cover environmental baseline data, heritage, groundwater, mining and geotechnical data, metallurgical and processing data, and the required infrastructure to support any future mining operation including power and village accommodation.
The regional exploration program (including drilling, seismic and geophysical surveys) will cover priority target areas including Deep Well, Homestead, North Dome, Lake Charles, Brooks and Jack’s Dam. Subject to approvals and planned geophysical surveys, we expect drilling to commence in 2026.
We have submitted plans to construct an initial, 78-bed standalone facility including a kitchen and dining area, small gym, and supporting services infrastructure such as power and water supplies, on the existing accommodation footprint at Kalkaroo Station.
Socio-economic benefits
Over the next two years, we anticipate a peak workforce of approximately 100 people including offsite roles, site management, safety, geotechnical, drilling, and on-site support services (catering, cleaning) roles.
Havilah and Sandfire will work with the South Australian Government, Traditional Owners and other key stakeholders as they invest in the region, advance the project and create socio-economic benefits for the community.
Meaningful engagement with Traditional Custodians and Indigenous Peoples, and the protection of their cultural heritage, is a priority for Sandfire and Havilah.
Sandfire and Havilah have established a strategic alliance across the highly prospective Curnamona Province in northeastern South Australia.
The Sandfire – Havilah Partnership
On 6 February 2026, Havilah Resources (Havilah) and Sandfire Resources (Sandfire) executed the Definitive Transaction Agreements to advance the Kalkaroo Copper-Gold Project (Kalkaroo Project) and establish an exploration strategic alliance across the highly prospective Curnamona Province in northeastern South Australia.
Under the Agreements, Sandfire may earn an 80% interest in the Kalkaroo Project through a two-stage earn-in structure, comprising an initial $31.5 million cash payment and grant of approximately 4.6 million shares to Havilah, and a Stage 2 payment in a combination of cash and Sandfire shares.
As part of this process, Sandfire has also committed to fund a new pre-feasibility study (PFS) including a minimum 20,000m infill and extension drilling program.
Under the Strategic Alliance Agreement, Sandfire will commit a minimum A$30 million to support regional exploration across prescribed tenements in the Curnamona Province, covering 8,847 square kilometres across an initial 24-month period. This will involve drilling, as well as seismic and geophysical surveys.
