Sandfire’s Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director, Brendan Harris, recently presented at the Future of Mining Summit in Botswana.
Brendan’s presentation, ‘Building a World Class Copper Asset from the Ground Up’, highlighted the remarkable development of Sandfire’s Motheo Operations, from construction to the rapid expansion of its annualised processing capacity from the initial 3.2 to 5.2 million tonnes per annum.
The Motheo Operations now run at a 5.6 million tonnes per annum rate, delivering more copper than originally planned and generating more local jobs and economic value for Botswana.
Brendan also shared that Sandfire has invested more than US$500 million in Botswana since 2021 and discussed plans to expand its footprint and sustain operations beyond the current mine life of Motheo.
The Summit also provided a great opportunity for Sandfire’s leaders to share insights and key learnings from its Sandfire Motheo Operations and highlight the significant potential of the Kalahari Copper Belt and Botswana’s mining industry.
