Black Butte has hosted a Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) Camp for local third to sixth-grade students every summer since 2021.
Over four days, students explore engineering, natural sciences and technology through classroom and hands-on activities. The students spend a day with our Black Butte technical team, learning about foundational concepts in geology, mining engineering, metallurgy, and environmental science. The group then hikes to a local waterfall to study the area’s ecology, biology, and hydrology.
This program introduces campers to many different STEM career paths and is provided free of charge to all participants.
The project contributes to UN SDG Goal 4 – Quality Education and Sandfire’s Our People ESG pillar by supporting education programs.

Campamento STEM
Black Butte acoge desde 2021 un campamento orientado a las disciplinas de Ciencia, Tecnología, Ingeniería y Matemáticas (STEM, por sus siglas en inglés) dirigido a estudiantes entre tercer y sexto grado.
A lo largo de cuatro días, los estudiantes exploran estas áreas tanto a través de clases teóricas como de actividades prácticas. También pasan un día con nuestro equipo de Black Butte, con el que aprenden algunos conceptos básicos de geología, ingeniera minera, metalurgia y ciencias medioambientales. Además, realizan una excursión a una cascada local, donde estudian la ecología, la biología y la hidrología de la zona.
Este programa, que es totalmente gratuito para los participantes, les presenta diferentes itinerarios profesionales en el ámbito STEM.
El proyecto contribuye al ODS 4 de la ONU, Educación de calidad, y al compromiso ambiental, social y de gobierno corporativo de nuestro personal mediante el apoyo de programas de educación.
