Sandfire’s team at our MATSA Copper Operations have recently celebrated being awarded the XIV Award “Hechos y Realidades” (Facts and Realities) for their social welfare and sustainable development program – the Alliance Program.
The Alliance program provides financial support to local initiatives within the Huelva province of southern Spain, which are aimed at improving the general welfare of the communities within the region. These initiatives can range from social assistance, education, training, health and sporting initiatives through to environmental, cultural and historical restorations.
The Alliance Program has a financial contribution of €45,000 each year and is divided amongst program recipients. Since the program’s inception, Sandfire MATSA has collaborated with more than 500 projects across its local communities, which has amounted to over €650,000 being delivered in community funding.
The first prize for the Alliance Program this year went to the Women’s Association from the local town of Valdelamusa, who are utilising the program to refurbish their headquarters, making it more accessible for people with reduced mobilities and allowing the organisation to carry out their activities throughout the year.
The Alliance program will also support the Hermandad Santa Eulalia de Mérida from the local town of Almonaster la Real, where a new nursery is being built in 2023.
The Spanish Association against Cancer, which is located in Huelva, will also benefit from the program’s support in being able to implement volunteering and comprehensive care programs within one of its hospitals in the province, the closest to the mining operations.
Our team were thrilled to receive the award from the Serrana Fuente Vieja Association, and the recognition for the contribution the Alliance Program has made to our local communities.
