Vinodaarshini completed the Geology Vacation program at our DeGrussa Operation in Western Australia.
“Some people may think it’s just a vacation work but this was not only my first time experiencing mine/ FIFO life but it was also a golden opportunity to finally be able to pay my International tuition fees.”
Vinodaarshini said that Sandfire’s vacation program offered her practical experience within mining, from taking structural measurements on core samples to exploring the DeGrussa Copper underground Mine.
“The past 12-weeks have been amazing. I’ve gained so many practical experiences and met the most amazing group of people.”
“I will be forever grateful for this opportunity and take everything I’ve learned over the past few weeks and will apply it in real life situations.”
Shannon completed the Geology Vacation Program at Degrussa
“It has been such a wonderful experience. From going to the drilling rigs, exploring different sites, examining data and even getting a chance to work in the Head Office, this has been an exciting time in my journey to becoming a Geologist.
“I am looking forward to continuing my studies, with excitement and a much better understanding of what the Geology world encompasses.”
Rachelle completed the Environmental Science Vacation Program at DeGrussa.
Rachelle said that her vacation program has allowed her to discover a keen interest in mining and its processes.
“I was given the opportunities of going into processing, underground, as well as taking part in emergency response training, doing confined space rescue and vehicle extrication which were an awesome challenge!
“I learnt from the best and undertook water monitoring- regional and site based, inspections, data entry for annual reports, fauna rescue, and my own projects, just to name a few.
“This has given me a wide understanding of mining, and has developed into a strong passion and excitement for my future.”
Annie completed the Production Engineering Vacation Program at DeGrussa.
Annie said her vacation program with Sandfire provided growth, preparation and learning throughout her FIFO Mining Journey.
“I’ve experienced the underground shifts with the truckers, long hole – solo drillers, spent the day with the shift boss, service and paste crew as well as charge up and re-entry.
There is nothing quite rewarding than learning firsthand development and production of copper through CAD software, then going underground to see the final results and capabilities that working together as a huge team can achieve.”
Annie has continued with Sandfire, stepping into an Undergraduate Production Engineer role as she completes her studies.
Harry completed the Procurement Vacation Program at our Head Office in Perth, Western Australia.
Harry said that being exposed to working on-site and within the office has provided significant exposure to the business’s operations from both a technical and commercial perspective.
“Having this level of exposure has been particularly helpful working within procurement, as you are required to understand the needs of stakeholders from various business units, to come up with effective solutions in a timely manner.”
“A piece of advice for incoming vac students would be to take every opportunity handed to you!
“The work at Sandfire is interesting and engaging, and the experience is next to none.”
