Sandfire recognises the importance of community development and sustainable economic activity in both its area of operation and surrounding communities.
Guided by this commitment, our Motheo Operations recently partnered with the Ghanzi District Council to support the local informal business sector, with particular focus on empowering women through the construction of 14 market stalls.
In April, our Motheo team officially handed over the completed market stall units, located at the Choppies Mall in Ghanzi, Botswana, marking a significant milestone in the project.
Speaking at the handover, Onalenna Candy Godie, Sandfire’s General Manager at Motheo, reaffirmed our commitment to sustainable economic development. She noted the project reflects the Company’s values, particularly ‘Collaboration’, through strong partnerships with government.
On receiving the market stalls, the Council Chairperson, the Honourable Shane Kebadile, expressed appreciation for the continued and impactful support from Sandfire, as well as the Company’s visible commitment of collaboration with the Ghanzi community. He encouraged the future beneficiaries to take care of what has been entrusted to them.
This initiative goes beyond infrastructure. It is a meaningful investment in local entrepreneurship, aimed at unlocking opportunity, strengthening small businesses, and driving sustainable economic development within the region.
