MATSA launches the Provincial Observatory “Promoting Huelva”

Sandfire’s MATSA Operations has launched the Provincial Observatory “Promoting Huelva,” an initiative aimed at fostering dialogue, analysis, and collaboration to support the socio-economic development of the Huelva province.

The Observatory is an open, science-based forum that meets every four months. It brings together public authorities, local communities, businesses and other key stakeholders to identify opportunities and solutions for the province’s development. It also addresses priority issues shaping Huelva’s future, including jobs, social progress, sustainability, the local economy, innovation, young people, and equality.

The inaugural event, held on Tuesday 28 April, featured a roundtable titled “Modern mining and sustainable development in the province of Huelva”. In addition to addressing some the province’s main challenges and opportunities, Sandfire MATSA also presented its first Socio-Economic Impact Study for the 2023–2024 financial year.

This report evaluates the company’s contributions to employment, the business ecosystem, and the socio-economic environment in Huelva. The study is intended to be updated regularly, with the next report planned for the 2025–2026 financial year, serving as a rigorous tool to measure the territorial impact of Sandfire MATSA’s mining operations

Through this initiative, Sandfire MATSA reaffirms its commitment to the province of Huelva and its role in creating value and promoting sustainable territorial development.
