MATSA recognised for energy saving efforts

Sandfire is the first mining company in Spain to receive an Energy Saving Certificate (CAE) from the Ministry for Ecological Transition and Demographic Challenge for energy efficiency at its MATSA Operations.

The CAE certifies that, after carrying out energy efficiency measures, the MATSA Operations have achieved final energy savings of 1,655 MWh/year. This is a result of changing the angle of the blades in the main fan at Aguas Teñidas, without impacting functionality or the conditions underground.

The MATSA team worked closely with independent energy consultancy, SinCeO2, for this certification which was then verified by the General Secretariat for Energy of the Counselling of Industry, Energy and Mines of the Regional Government of Andalusia.

The announcement of this award aligned with World Energy Saving Day on 21 October.
