Margy Hawke shares her insights as part of IWD
Sandfire acknowledged this year’s United Nation’s International Women’s Day theme – Rights, justice and action for all women and girls – through a range of events and initiatives at our offices and sites.
This year’s theme is a powerful reminder that equity requires more than intention. It requires deliberate, sustained effort to dismantle the structural and cultural barriers that hold women and girls back.
At Sandfire’s Head Office in Perth, guest speaker Margy Hawke joined us for an engaging discussion, facilitated by Senior Generative Geologist Peter Willems.
Margy is well-acquainted with Sandfire, having started her career with the Company. She once dreamt of piloting the space shuttle but discovered her passion for geology while at university – a decision we greatly appreciate. Her expertise led to the discovery and subsequent development of DeGrussa, one of Australia’s most valuable copper-gold deposits.
Margy shared stories from her career and spoke about how she has seen geology and mining become more inclusive. We thank Margy for sharing her passion for geology and her perspectives on inclusion and diversity.
