“Working for Sandfire in both Degrussa and Monty’s underground operation departments has been an absolute delight and an opportunity that I do not take for granted. Learning from very skilled individuals and technical teams about the theoretical and practical components of underground mining and the unique techniques that come along with it, was life –altering and lead me to a decision to pursue a career in mining engineering. At Sandfire it is so much more than just a 12 hour shift, rather a day of doing something I enjoy, working with people who support my way of reasoning and thinking and are always willing to teach and share knowledge in their area of expertise. I thank those who had an impact and influence on me during my time at Sandfire and I am excited to know that I will be working with them again in the future.”

“Having the opportunity to take part in Sandfire’s Vacation Program has truly been a rewarding experience. Gaining valuable exposure to industry practices and being able to learn from such knowledgeable and experienced people around me are just a couple of the Program’s highlights. These, combined with the great on-site facilities and the Sandfire ethos shared by all employees, make for an incredible working experience.”

“I joined Sandfire as a Graduate Mining Engineer after graduating from WASM, Kalgoorlie in 2017. I had the opportunity to work in different areas of the site operations and was fortuitous enough to work with a highly experienced engineering team who were always willing to help me. After I completed the graduate program, I continued working for Sandfire, as a Production Engineer and was then promoted to my current role as a Planning Engineer.” - Jobin Thomas

Kristyn Adamczyk: Building a career and seeing the world

In late 2013 I crossed the Nullaboar to join Sandfire Resources as a graduate exploration geologist after completing my honours thesis on the Degrussa VMS deposit. Almost a decade on, I have been on a steady journey of growth and development.

As a graduate, I worked across the Doolgunna Project exploring for VMS deposits during which time we discovered the world class, high grade Cu-Au Monty VMS deposit. Some months later after completing the resource drill out and pre-feasibility study I was seconded to IMDEX in Perth for seven months to work on building a litho-geochemical classification, alteration model and targeting program for exploration. It was during this time that my passion for geochemistry and its application to exploration was ignited!

Close to the end of this secondment a position opened within our Regional Exploration team to work on exploring for Porphyry and Epithermal deposits within the Macquarie ARC, NSW. After a year of chasing drill rigs and mastering how to reverse a trailer I stepped up into my first leadership role as project manager and led a diverse team of geologists, field technicians and contractors during the 2018-2019 field exploration activities.

A career defining moment came in mid-2019 when I was given the chance to spend three months conducting heli-born exploration across the mountain slopes and ankle bending tundra of the Alaskan ranges. A once in a lifetime opportunity and one that I will remember for years to come.

I have more recently moved into a Perth based, head office position as Project Geologist/Geochemist. Within this role I am responsible for leading the understanding, application and multi-disciplinary integration of geochemical data across all exploration projects within the company. Collaborating with a variety of people across the business and helping them deliver successful projects is one of the most enjoyable aspects of this job.

Working for Sandfire Resources has come with a myriad of opportunities, challenges and life changing experiences. The most rewarding part, above all, has been the meaningful relationships I have built with the people and communities I have worked with.
